Quercetin is a water-soluble bioflavonoid compound found in kale, onions, apples, green tea and black tea. Bioflavonoids are a diverse group of similarly structure compounds with extremely valuable antioxidant activity and other important functions. Quercetin has a potent antioxidant activity and helps stabilize cell membranes, which helps to protects the cells and tissues from the damaging effects of free radicals and excessive inflammation. It has also been shown to support histamine metabolism and modulate the activity of certain inflammation-promoting compounds. This works similar to Claritin, Zyrtec and Allegra without any side effects.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is essential to humans and must be obtained exogenously. While most mammals are able to synthesize ascorbic acid, humans lack one of the enzymes required for this process and can quickly become deficient if dietary or supplemental intake is inadequate. Stress, smoking, pollution, and temperature changes increase our requirement for vitamin C.
