Product Description
OHM Carcinosinum 30C is a homeopathic remedy (also called Carcinosin/Carcinosinum). In homeopathic practice, it is used for both people and animals, but the traditional homeopathic uses and the scientifically established evidence are very different.
In humans
Homeopathic practitioners may select Carcinosinum 30C for a broad symptom pattern rather than for one specific disease. A U.S. DailyMed label for Carcinosin 30C lists temporary relief of anxiety, headache, fatigue, and weakness. Other homeopathic references have traditionally associated Carcinosinum with digestive discomfort, painful or hardened breast tissue, joint/rheumatic discomfort, and certain emotional or constitutional patterns.
Despite the name and its historical origin as a nosode prepared from carcinoma material, it should not be considered a treatment or preventive for cancer. Products at 30C are serially diluted to an extremely high degree. The FDA classifies these products as unapproved homeopathic drugs and states that it is not aware of scientific evidence establishing homeopathy as effective.
In dogs, cats, and other pets
Veterinary homeopaths sometimes use Carcinosinum as an individualized constitutional remedy. You may see it discussed for animals experiencing things such as:
- Anxiety, nervousness, or unusual sensitivity
- Fearfulness or stress
- Chronic fatigue or low vitality
- Recurrent or longstanding health complaints
- Certain chronic skin or digestive patterns
- As a complementary remedy in animals with complicated medical histories
However, those are homeopathic indications, not scientifically established veterinary indications. The Merck Veterinary Manual notes that homeopathic remedies have been proposed for many animal conditions, including cancer, but evidence supporting their effectiveness is lacking. A systematic review of veterinary homeopathy likewise found no reliable evidence from the available controlled trials.
Important point about the word “Carcinosinum”
The name understandably makes people think it is specifically a cancer medicine. It isn't an FDA-approved cancer treatment for humans or an established veterinary cancer treatment. One laboratory study has investigated Carcinosinum 30C in mouse mammary cancer cells and reported some cellular changes, but that was an in-vitro laboratory experiment, not evidence that it treats cancer in humans or pets. The researchers themselves stated that further in-vivo research was needed.
For a store/customer description, I would describe it as:
“Carcinosinum 30C is a traditional homeopathic remedy generally selected according to an individual’s overall symptom pattern, including emotional sensitivity, fatigue, stress, and certain chronic complaints. Homeopathic uses are based on traditional practice and have not been established by FDA-reviewed clinical evidence.”
For pets, I would recommend customers consult their veterinarian or a veterinarian trained in integrative/homeopathic medicine, particularly if the pet has a lump, cancer diagnosis, significant pain, persistent vomiting/diarrhea, breathing problems, weight loss, or another ongoing medical condition. Homeopathy shouldn't delay diagnosis or proven veterinary treatment.
